Policy Commission work programme 2007

1. Introduction
The Prosperity and Work Policy Commission covers a number of key Issues for Labour In government economic affairs, employment rights, welfare reform, manufacturing and pensions to name but a few.
With senior stakeholders sitting alongside Government ministers and CLP activists from the National Policy Forum, the commission will offer a forum for the party to speak frankly on some of the biggest issues facing Labour in a third term.

February 2007
Future economic challenges, meeting with Gordon Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
February/March 2007 - Tackling entrenched poverty and social exclusion
Discussing the measures needed to tackle child and pensioner poverty, further welfare reform measures, early intervention, helping 'hard to reach' cases and the role of social enterprises in helping to support anti-poverty measures.
May/June 2007 - Drafting of 2 year policy consultation document
The commission will consider and agree a draft second year policy consultation document ahead of the National Policy Forum in July. Commission members will reflect on submissions received and representations to the Prosperity and Work policy commission when drafting the document
Summer 2007 - NPF
Meeting of the National Policy Forum to agree second year policy consultation document.
September 2007
Annual Conference Prosperity and Work policy seminar at Annual Conference - all commission members and relevant ministers will be invited to attend the Prosperity and Work policy seminar which is open to all delegates.
October /November 2007 - Social Justice and Full Employment for Europe
Looking at employment rights and economic policies in the EU, including the Agency Workers Directive, and on how the EU can meet the challenge of globalisation and fulfil the Lisbon goals.
November/December 2007 - Making Britain a World leader in Skills and Science
Joint meeting with the Education Policy Commission reporting on the work undertaken since the Leitch review on skills, the roles of FE, adult education and the school curriculum in increasing productivity and employment and the future role of science and research in the British economy.
