Commission Work Programme 2007
February 2007
Cabinet working groups - Ruth Kelly to report to the commission on the big challenges being considered by the cabinet policy working groups relevant to the CSC policy commission.
Local government, housing and communities - The commission will receive the final report of the housing sub-group. The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government will report back to the commission on progress in Labour's local government reforms as set out in the Local Government White Paper, and the Local Government and GLA bills. Speakers on housing and local government will be invited as appropriate.
May 2007 - Climate change and energy
The commission will hear from the Secretary of State and discuss progress on and current issues in environment and energy policy, such as domestic and international measures to tackle climate change, promoting sustainable individual and organisational behaviour, and ensuring a sustainable and secure energy supply to meet Britain's future needs. Outside speakers will be invited as appropriate.
May/June 2007 - Drafting 2 year policy consultation document
The commission will consider and agree a draft second year policy consultation document ahead of the National Policy Forum in the summer. Commission members will reflect on submissions received and representations to the policy commission when drafting the document.
Summer 2007
Meeting of the National Policy Forum to agree second year policy consultation document. As with previous years NPF members will consider the sustainable communities section of the document in breakout sessions.
September 2007
Sustainable Communities policy seminar(s) at Annual Conference - all commission members and relevant ministers will be invited to attend the policy seminar(s).
October 2007- Transport
What can the Labour government do to ensure Britain's transport network is integrated, accessible and environmentally sustainable? We will consider the role and structure of main forms of public transport, such as bus and rail; and in addition we will look at provision for cyclists and pedestrians. We will also look at progress on the road pricing agenda and reducing congestion. The Secretary of State for Transport will be invited to lead, with outside speakers invited as appropriate.
November/December 2007 - Culture, media, sport and London 2012
The commission will look at progress on preparing for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and how we can ensure that communities in London, and across Britain, gain the full benefit of the opportunities the Games provide. The commission will also look at current issues in media and culture policy areas. The Secretary of State will be invited to lead, with outside speakers invited as appropriate.
