The Coalition – Damaging the NHS

The Coalition – the NHS is not safe with them

BREAKING UP THE NHS AND MAKING POST CODE LOTTERIES WORSE

The Coalition are abolishing the bodies that oversee the NHS. They say they are abolishing quangos but they are handing over the commissioning of NHS services to hundreds of GP Consortia. the cost? At least £3bn. GPs are supposed to buy health services for you. Do you want your GP to be an accountant or a doctor? Do you want your GP to spend time treating patients or filling out forms? GPs will end up re-employing NHS staff as expensive consultants. GPs could also be liable financially – so GPs have an incentive to cut corners and use cheaper options.

 CUTTING NHS BUDGETS

David Cameron said before the election that there would be no NHS cuts but documents revealed by the House oF Commons library revealed the claim of real terms increase in NHS budget is only true if you include social care, not normally included in the NHS budget. Without it there is a £500m real terms cut.

Nigel Edwards, head of the NHS Confederation, said that Coalition cuts to councils will mean less money for care and lead to greater bed-blocking.

PRIVATISING THE NHS

Private companies welcomed Tory plans as a chance for them to do more NHS work and grab more NHS money. Kingsley Manning of the company Tribal said, “It could lead to the denationalisation of healthcare services in England.”

PUTTING LIVES AT RISK

The 1 week target for cancer screening has been scrapped. The 4 hour waiting time target for A&E has been scrapped. 18 week maximum waiting target for operations scrapped. Time targets for ambulance services have been cut. NHS Direct is axed, to be replaced by cut price services using far less medical staff (replacing nurses with people who have done a 60 hour course).
